Below are merely my speculative thoughts on how things will pan out in pool play for the first couple weeks of the season. I’d love it if some other people chimed in and told me what they thought, or just that I’m an idiot for ranking their team so low. Reallistically i just want to see a comment as noone seems to be paying attention to this blog and it hurts my feelings. i’m pretty sure if you could hear an echo through the internet that would be the only thing drowning out the crickets right now.
John Brown Pool 1. Pita Pit 2. Free State 3. Blue Collar Press 4. Astrokitty 5. Henry’s
James Naismith Pool 1. First Blood 2. Red Lyon 3. Mad Greek 4. Slowride Roadhouse 5. Open Sky Landscaping (although i’ve heard these guys have played around with their lineup and might change things up).
Carrie A Nation Pool 1. Jazzhaus 2. Yellow Sub 3. West Coast Saloon 4. Channel 6 Toepokes (no real reason for this ranking) 5. 23rd street Brewery
William S Burroughs 1. Sacred Sword (no brainer) 2. Miltons 3. Girls W/ Low self esteem (recent lineup changes) 4. Liberty Hall 5. Tellers
Lucy Hobbs Taylor Pool 1. Love Garden (lets hope they don’t implode with all of that talent) 2. eldridge (i wanted so badly to put in 3rd
) 3. replay 4. weavers 5. solidarity
Langston Hughs Pool 1. Eastsiders 2. Wildman Vintage 3. Rangelife 4. Screamers 5. Miss Fortunes

Now this is my kind of topic! I think you’ve got the 1’s right, but I’ll need to see the exact Eastsider’s/Milton’s split to evaluate how good they’ll be. The Screamers are way better than a 4. In fact, I believe they are contenders to win that division. Henry’s could turn some heads. They are the “competitive” half of the Yello Sub/Crossing team, so they have experience and talent. Overall, I think the Naismith Pool is the toughest. First Blood will be a top-level team once again, but Red Lyon and Mad Greek are going to be up there with them. How about the Greek’s playoff run last year?! The Sword will continue to put up jaw-dropping run totals with their pesky bunting. The new defensive line could make it a little tougher for them, though. Love Garden has the talent to return to the top. I wouldn’t recommend testing their bunt defense. Pita Pit will dominate their pool, and could defend their title. Jazzhaus added one of the league’s best arms to their infield- a piece of the puzzle that they were missing last year, so watch out for them. Man, I could go on about this shit all day! Can’t wait for the games to start!
wow, good on ya, phil and deron, on trying to schedule 15 teams for a tournament. five (three team) round robin tournaments! obviously and thankfully, the pre-season schedule reflects some attention given to similar (predicted*) seeds (after pool play). however, it’ll be interesting to see how the inter-pool matches unfold in this weekends “tourney”. though teams should be using these games to simply run around a bit and loosen up those aching joints (cough), the creativity of this years schedule brings intrigue. i know its just pre-season, but putting mike’s sacred sword(1) against divisional foe teller’s(2) is stoking a sure rivalry in the burroughs div…. and replay(3) v weavers(4) could help establish the lucy hobbs taylor div gatekeepers and potential LHT pool upstart…other highlights include almost every other conceivable interesting matchup between teams that are playing and the fact that it is nearly all happening in the same place or close to it!!!

“I’d love it if some other people chimed in and told me what they thought, or just that I’m an idiot for ranking their team so low.” Mike, you’re an idiot (albeit an endearing one) regardless of where you rank teams.
John Brown: PP, Das Boot, FSBC, AstroKitty, BCP
James Naismith: FirstBl, MG, Slowride, Red Lyon, Open Sky
Carrie A. Nation: JazzHaus, Kickn’ Coasters, YS, 23rd, Channel 6
William S. Burroughs: SS, Tellers, Miltons, Liberty Hall, Girls w/LSE
Lucy Hobbs Taylor: LG, Eldridge, Weavers, Replay, Solidarity
Langston Hughes: Eastsiders, Screamers, Rangelife, Wildman, Lady Lumps
BCP in 5th?! Et tu, Deron?
I would have to agree with Geoff on the topic of the Screamers. They were quite impressive last year and I’d have to say they’re way better then a 4. The number ones seem pretty spot on. Although we at the Greek are hoping to give First Blood a run for their money. All in all I think this is going to shape up to be one of the most exciting seasons yet.
man i wrote out a whole thing here and I screwed it up somehow. oh well no picks for you guys…maybe if we do week one picks or something…
